Product care

Crafting your pieces with love.

Every Kala Waya Collection jewellery piece is made with a Dose of Love

Each piece is a delicate handmade creation and must be treated with care. KW Collections’ hair and body jewellery pieces consist of components from a range of precious metals, fabrics and other delicate components such as crystals, pearls and gemstones. Wire-wrapping techniques are used in a lot of my designs and should be delicately handled. Continuously touching, bending too much or exposing to very cold environments could cause brittleness and breakage. Store in an appropriate setting.

It is generally recommended that KW Collections’ hair and body jewellery pieces be placed on last to complete your gorgeous outfit and look.

To preserve your jewellery piece, so you get to love and wear it for a long time, the following care instructions are suggested.

Most metals are protected with an anti-tarnish barrier, however careful handling over time is still required.

For jewellery that is mainly bare copper and brass, you can use simple ingredients found in your kitchen. Ketchup (yes ketchup) or a small bowl of lemon juice and salt works really well to remove tarnish and restore shine. Leave to soak for a few minutes, wipe off the solution and clean with a polishing cloth. Do not try this on copper or brass with an antique finish as this finish is an intentional part of the design and aesthetic.

Protect your jewellery from moisture and air, which is one of the main causes of jewellery tarnishing, by storing your gorgeous items in the box or cotton bag which was included with your purchase. Alternatively, zip-lock bags work really well too!

Clean these pieces with the same precautions you would take with any of your other jewellery. Gently buff with a dry soft cotton cloth to renew lustre and shine. For sterling silver and gold products, use a good quality commercial jewellery dip and polishing cloth.

Please avoid bringing your jewellery into direct contact with substances such as hairspray, perfume, lotions, pool or sea water, and other chemicals which will cause discolouration and damage metals.

Stainless steel and rhodium metals do not tarnish. Can be cleaned in mild soapy water, air dried and buffed with a dry jewellery cloth.

Swarovski crystals, pearls, stones and other beads can be fragile. Avoid using tissue or paper towel to clean them as this is likely to cause scratches. Buffing these components with a soft lint free cloth will usually suffice to maintain their sparkle. Most can also be wiped with a small amount of alcohol, except pearls or opal.

Pearls and opals are very porous and can lose their lustre when they come in to contact with natural oils and chemicals. Wipe pearls with a soft damp cloth after each wear to remove body oils and perfume that can yellow them. Store separately from other hard items to avoid scratches.

Some creations are made from delicate silks, organza, leathers and other fabrics. Ensure careful handling by keeping fabric clean and free from dust. Store in original packaging.

Some accessories, for example certain headbands, can be gently soaked in mild lukewarm soapy water and left to air dry.

Be careful handling pieces with embellishments and embroidery details.

For veils, hang out of direct sunlight to preserve shape and reduce creasing. If still crinkled, veils can be steamed or ironed on a low setting.

Kala Waya Collections is not responsible for replacing any hair and body jewellery damaged by not following the recommended product care and handling guidance. Damage caused by general wear and tear is the responsibility of the owner. All KW Collections pieces are made to a high quality standard and packaged for preservation and a great unboxing experience.

I do not offer refunds for damaged items but will happily exchange the item (like for like) if it is damaged during delivery to you.
